It emphasizes the importance of collaboration among individuals and communities to ensure that resources are distributed equitably, fostering an environment where everyone can benefit from shared wealth. Skyward Harmony

Skyward Harmony. Digital art created on canvas. August 15, 2024. Afrika Abney Looking out from my window, I was greeted by clouds drifting lazily across the sky, while a solitary bird soared gracefully above. The scene sparked a wave of inspiration within me, prompting me to reach for my digital palette. I carefully chose a variety of blue hues, blending them with soft whites to capture the essence of the sky and the fleeting beauty of the bird in flight. With each stroke of my virtual brush, I began to translate the atmospheric beauty before me onto my digital canvas. The cool blues danced harmoniously with the gentle whites, creating a sense of depth and movement that mirrored the clouds and the bird's elegant trajectory.

DC Black School Leaders

“Nearly 70% of DC principals are black. A majority of those leaders are black women. Over the next few weeks, months, and even years, there will be much questioning about the capabilities and values of a Black and Indian woman on an international stage. This will inevitably be challenging for many people, particularly black women, who are disproportionately subjected to such critique and skepticism. Black women have a vital role in education and, as demonstrated time and again, in our political landscape. If our students are going to experience the consistency, justice and academic experience we know they deserve, taking care of ourselves is not a luxury—it's imperative.”   NationHouse Anniversary 1980s   I gave away this outfit many years ago. Brown Empowerment

“Labor Day holds a significant place in the history and culture of African Americans, serving as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for labor rights and social justice. Originally established to honor the contributions of workers across the nation, this holiday also reflects the unique challenges faced by African Americans in the workforce. Historically, African Americans have encountered systemic barriers, including discrimination and unequal pay, which have shaped their experiences in the labor market. As a result, Labor Day not only celebrates the achievements of workers but also highlights the need for continued advocacy for equity and inclusion in employment. The observance of this day encourages reflection on the progress made and the work that remains to ensure that all individuals, regardless of race, can enjoy fair labor practices and opportunities for advancement.” As an African - American since I was a high school student in 1991, I have experienced racism and d...

Canvas of Experiences

Canvas of Experiences. Digital art created on canvas. October 26, 2024. Afrika Abney  I am a dedicated and passionate professional. In the 1990s up until 1996, I was a teenager. I chose brown ochre to represent the color of my skin. White and black to represent the racism and discrimination that I began to experience in the 1990s and continued beyond the 1990s. There is darkness within the experiences of racism and discrimination. However, the contrasting colors represent the persistence of overcoming the hardships of experiencing racism and discrimination. The exploration of human experiences within the context of abstract art

Quote found on the Internet “The exploration of human experiences within the context of abstract art reveals a profound interplay between emotion and perception. Abstract art, characterized by its departure from representational forms, invites viewers to engage with their own feelings and interpretations. This genre transcends traditional boundaries, allowing individuals to connect with the artwork on a personal level, often evoking a range of responses that are deeply rooted in their own life experiences. The absence of recognizable subjects encourages a more introspective approach, prompting viewers to reflect on their emotions and thoughts as they navigate the vibrant colors, shapes, and textures presented before them.”
