How do you foster a sense of belonging in your classroom?

When I worked in many classrooms between 1995 - 2018, I believed in showing the students respect, trust and inclusion. This means treating each student with dignity and valuing their unique qualities and perspectives. By fostering an environment where students feel respected and heard, they are more likely to develop a sense of belonging and connection to the classroom community. Trust is also essential in creating a safe space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and taking academic risks. When students feel included and valued, they are more motivated to engage in learning and participate in classroom activities.
