Personality Palette

Personality Palette. Personality Palette. Digital art created on canvas. August 15, 2024. Afrika Abney

In my digital artwork, I incorporated the vibrant hue of orange, a color that embodies a multitude of personality traits. Among these traits, I find that I resonate with being generous, optimistic, and creative. The choice of orange in my creations is not merely aesthetic; it reflects my own character and outlook on life. This bold color choice serves as a visual representation of my inner self, showcasing the warmth and enthusiasm I bring to my artistic endeavors.

When I embrace the color orange, I make it clear that I prefer direct communication. I do not engage in passive listening or eavesdropping on conversations around me. If someone wishes to connect or share their thoughts, I encourage them to reach out to me directly. This approach not only fosters clarity in communication but also allows me to focus on my own projects and passions without distraction. I believe that meaningful interactions stem from direct engagement rather than indirect exchanges.

My commitment to the color orange also signifies my dedication to pursuing my own path. I am not particularly interested in the activities or conversations of others, as my focus remains firmly on my own journey. By minding my own business and immersing myself in my creative process, I cultivate an environment where my ideas can flourish. This self-directed approach not only enhances my artistic expression but also reinforces my belief in the importance of individuality as I am an African - American female.

Unity in Motion

“Unity in Motion emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and collaboration within the arts community, promoting a sense of togetherness. During my time at various art institutions, I encountered instances of racism and discrimination. These experiences were disheartening and highlighted the challenges faced within the visual art and dance community. Additionally, I faced issues with timely payment from several organizations, which further complicated my professional engagements. Despite my commitment to providing high-quality services, there were instances where payments were delayed or not received at all and raised concerns about the professionalism of the organizations involved. It is important to note that throughout my interactions with these companies, I did not render any services since I was last hired. The combination of discriminatory experiences, financial inconsistencies, and a lack of engagement from certain organizations highlights the importance for improve...

Blank Canvas

In my digital abstract paintings, I integrate a variety of elements such as vivid colors, intricate brushstrokes, and a diverse array of lines, shapes, and patterns. Each of these components plays a crucial role in the overall composition, contributing to the dynamic visual experience that characterizes my work. However, prior to embarking on the creation of each piece, I take a moment to closely analyze the textured blank canvas that serves as my starting point.

Passion for the arts

Pablo Picasso: ""Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life". This quote could mean that art can transport people away from the ordinary, or that it can give new meaning to everyday life." Henri Matisse: ""Creativity takes courage". This quote may seem dramatic, but it can also be wise. Not all great works of art need to have a deep meaning, but the ones that do stand out." Growing up in Washington, DC, I developed a passion for art early on, shaping my artistic journey from a young age. Attending NationHouse and other art institutions between the ages of 7 and 16, I immersed myself in creativity and African-centered education. By the time I was 7 in 1983, I was already drawing stick figures, leading to further artistic development at NationHouse and Bell Multicultural High School (now called Columbia Heights Education Campus) until age  16.  Donated the painting shown in the above photo. Additionally, I gave away the clothing a...

Circle of Harmony

Circle of Harmony. Digital art created on August 13, 2024. Afrika Abney  Research indicates that “the circle serves as a profound symbol of unity, embodying the concept of wholeness and the intricate connections that bind all forms of life. Unlike other shapes, circles lack a definitive starting or ending point, which signifies the perpetual nature of relationships and underscores the significance of inclusivity. Across various cultures and traditions, circles are often incorporated into rituals and communal gatherings, representing equality and a shared mission. This powerful imagery serves as a reminder to participants that each individual plays a vital role in the collective journey toward peace and understanding. The essence of the circle lies in its ability to foster a sense of belonging and mutual respect among individuals.
