Creative Chronicles

Creative Chronicles. Digital art created on canvas. October 26, 2024. Afrika Abney

At the time when digital art began in the 1980s, I was 4 - 13 and a student at NationHouse. I did not start creating digital art until 2009. With over a decade of experience in digital art, I have honed my skills in various techniques and styles. I specialize in creating captivating and visually stunning digital artworks that evoke emotion and tell a story.

Upon waking up from my restful sleep and unaware of the discussions taking place, I began to implement my routine and examine my digital art.

Festive Tapestry

Festive Tapestry. Digital art created on canvas. November 25, 2024. Afrika Abney “ The term "Festive Tapestry" evokes a rich and vibrant image, suggesting a woven fabric that embodies the spirit of celebration and joy. This concept can be interpreted as a metaphor for the intricate and colorful experiences that come together during festive occasions. Each thread in the tapestry represents a unique element of the celebration, whether it be the traditions, the people involved, or the emotions shared, all contributing to a larger narrative of communal joy and togetherness.”

Commitment in Genuineness

Commitment in Genuineness. Digital art created on canvas. December 27, 2024. Afrika Abney  “Vote one for love” which is a television movie released in 2023 is about “when Candace, a up and coming political operative in DC, is sent home to small town Heartstone Wyoming to help win a mayoral race, she is shocked to discover her high school rival is the candidate in question... and possibly the one who can win the vacant seat in her heart!” My hometown is Washington, DC. I never visited Texas nor any part of California. I believe that this movie highlighted the importance of commitment, dedication, devotion, trust, respect, and fully listening to the choices and decisions revolving around the role played by Candace and Derek. Diving all in or not all.

Passion for the arts

Pablo Picasso: ""Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life". This quote could mean that art can transport people away from the ordinary, or that it can give new meaning to everyday life." Henri Matisse: ""Creativity takes courage". This quote may seem dramatic, but it can also be wise. Not all great works of art need to have a deep meaning, but the ones that do stand out." Growing up in Washington, DC, I developed a passion for art early on, shaping my artistic journey from a young age. Attending NationHouse and other art institutions between the ages of 7 and 16, I immersed myself in creativity and African-centered education. By the time I was 7 in 1983, I was already drawing stick figures, leading to further artistic development at NationHouse and Bell Multicultural High School (now called Columbia Heights Education Campus) until age  16.  Donated the painting shown in the above photo. Why I taught the arts?

When I was a little girl, I wanted to pursue a career in the arts. I choose the arts as a vehicle and outlet for me to express myself through using the arts. If it was not for the love of the arts and I had the opportunity to teach visual arts, literary arts, and dance throughout my community in the past. It gave me the opportunity to express myself as it is related to bullying and culture, especially to minority race.  I taught various art forms such as collage design, abstract painting, drawing, poetry, and dance to children, youth and dance. My Charter School Experiences

In 1992, I did not attend a charter school. I have had a wide range opportunities that took place at various schools. I have not provided any services for schools as a consultant for a while. Among them include when I served as a substitute teacher for Mundo Verde PCS in 2013, I can recall working with some of the students and staff and sharing my passion and extensive background in visual arts. Additionally, I can recall when I served as a substitute teacher for DC International School. I knew a little bit of Spanish, but as a professional visual artist, I really enjoyed sharing my love and extensive background in visual arts with the students and some of the staff members at DC International from 2016-2017. Also when I served as an art elective Summer Camp teacher for Higher Achievement in 2013, the program took place at Center City Capitol Hill Campus.
