My High School Experiences

My high school experiences were diverse and somewhat traumatizing for me. I had the opportunity to exhibit my artwork in New York City in 1993 at The New Harlem Gallery (New York City, New York) and Wisteria ArtSpace (New York City, New York). I was 16 years old at that time. Additionally, I participated in the Congressional Art Competition from 1992 - 1993.

I was exposed to a diverse set of people with different backgrounds and sexual orientations from 1991 - 1993. I was often bullied about my name, height, and size. Fortunately, I expressed my anger throughout my visual artwork.

Each of these experiences allowed me to produce a different set of artwork and develop a wide range of skills.

Colorful Symbolism

Colorful Symbolism. Digital art created on canvas. October 9, 2024. Afrika Abney  Today is October 10, 2024 and I woke up from my restful sleep. I have no idea what discussions you are having because I am busy focusing on my branding, digital art and my services. The purpose of sharing my digital art that I have created has nothing to do with relationships nor friendships. It has to do with the experiences, symbolism behind the colors and the principles related to creating my digital art.  According to my research, “ deep dark red represents determination, warmth and depth, while crimson and red symbolizes courage and creativity.”

Vibrant Visions of Faith

Vibrant Visions of Faith. Digital art created on canvas. November 26, 2024. Afrika Abney  With the principle of faith, I am fortunate that I graduated from Bell Multicultural High School in 1993 because I felt alone, depressed, traumatized, isolated and discriminated against every time that I stepped inside the school from 1991 - 1993. The colors gold and shades of yellow are deliberately selected to depict optimism, while black represents faith.

Personality Palette

Personality Palette. Personality Palette. Digital art created on canvas. August 15, 2024. Afrika Abney  In my digital artwork, I incorporated the vibrant hue of orange, a color that embodies a multitude of personality traits. Among these traits, I find that I resonate with being generous, optimistic, and creative. The choice of orange in my creations is not merely aesthetic; it reflects my own character and outlook on life. This bold color choice serves as a visual representation of my inner self, showcasing the warmth and enthusiasm I bring to my artistic endeavors. When I embrace the color orange, I make it clear that I prefer direct communication. I do not engage in passive listening or eavesdropping on conversations around me. If someone wishes to connect or share their thoughts, I encourage them to reach out to me directly. This approach not only fosters clarity in communication but also allows me to focus on my own projects and passions without distraction. I believe t...
